十二生肖花钱是古代花钱一种。花钱源于汉代，早期主要是民间自娱自乐的一种玩钱，古代的花钱和现在的纪念币有些相似，但用途更加广泛，寓意也更加复杂，通常是辟邪、吉祥纪念的寓意。

该十二生肖八卦花钱由江苏藏家马老师祖传之物，是一枚常见的“八卦图”花钱，圆孔，宽缘，正面是八卦图，“乾，坤，震，艮，离，坎，兑，巽”与各自三爻的符号相对，“乾三连，坤六断，震仰盂，艮覆碗，离中虚，坎中满，兑上缺，巽下断”的八卦歌诀。背面是十二生肖图，“子、丑、寅、卯、辰、巳、午、未、申、酉、戌、亥”，十二地支名称对应着十二个属相图案，环成一圈，刻画生动，十分精美。
