说起银元，就不得不提起“袁大头”银元。其正式名称应该为“袁世凯像背嘉禾银币”。因为钱币正面有袁世凯侧身像，而被称作“袁大头”。文中展示的此枚为中华民国三年袁大头，钱币正面袁世凯像上刻有年代。背面为币值“伍圆”二字，周围嘉禾围绕。袁大头在中国近代钱币历史上具有极重要的地位，也被称为近代银元之宝。
