袁世凯银元又名袁大头，是袁世凯就任大总统后，为了巩固政局、发展经济、决定在全国统一币制时发行的货币，在天津造币总厂和武昌、广州、南京等分厂按规格、重量等铸造袁世凯头像银币，俗称袁大头。银币的正面图案，中间为袁世凯（均为光头）戎装左侧面像，上方为“中华民国×年”；背面图案均是两株交叉的稻穗，中央为“壹圆”、“中圆”（伍角）、“贰角”、“壹角”字样。这种银元在抗战前曾广泛流通，此后也长期存在，是近代中国币制变革中的一个重要角色。
