清康熙十七年(1678)三月初，吴三桂在湖南衡阳称帝，国号大周，改元昭武，为维持人心，铸"昭武通宝"。此钱仿明代钱币旧制，其版式有小平和折十型。小平楷书钱较多，常光背，也有背"工"者;小平篆书则较少;折十是篆书大钱，背"壹分"，篆文古拙。但吴三桂在这年八月死了，故此币流通时间不长，流通领域不广。"昭武通宝"是在湖南衡阳铸造发行的唯一古钱币。
