宝苏局于清咸丰三年 (公元1853年）冬最先开铸当十钱。咸丰四年二月,在苏北清江浦(淮阴)增设宝苏分局 (淮安分局) , 赶铸当十、当二十、当三十、当百大钱 。再至咸丰十年 (公元1860年) 四月，太平天国李秀成率军攻克苏州, 宝苏局遂被迫停铸。

  宝苏局是清代南方地方铸钱大局，其因江浙地区商业贸易发达用钱量大相关，故而铸钱量大。在咸丰年间的铸钱，通宝、重宝、元宝皆具，铸量较为可观，最为著名的就是那咸丰元宝当五百。而在其重宝系列里，由当五开始，当十、当二十、当三十、当五十共五等。其中，当二十和当三十两等最为特殊，可谓清代铸币等值之独有。

During the reign of emperor xianfeng, there were all kinds of COINS, including tongbao, chongbao and ingot. The most famous one was that the ingot of emperor xianfeng was 500 yuan. But in its heavy treasure series, starts when five, when ten, when twenty, when thirty, when fifty altogether five and so on. Among them, when twenty and when thirty two are the most special, can be said to be the qing dynasty coinage unique.
