此币由意大利籍雕刻师乔（L.Giorgi）设计制模，乔治设计前并未见过袁世凯本人，是以袁氏半身向左的照片为样本进行雕刻，称为“七分脸”，完成后赴京晋见，发现与袁世凯本人差异甚大而未受青睐。分别有乔治“签字版”及“无签字版”，后来采用大家熟知的袁大头也有英文签字版，此币人物向侧面倾斜七分称“七分脸”，币面上的英文字样L.GIORGI为华外籍铸币专家意大利雕刻师所刻，比无签字版少，铸额亦极少，此币自然氧化颜色均匀，为难得之佳品。
