嘉庆通宝是铸于清仁宗嘉庆年间(1796-1820年)的钱币。但由于嘉庆帝嗣位的特殊性，所以嘉庆初年户、工等局没有全额铸行嘉庆通宝钱，这也算是一大特色。嘉庆通宝使用了楷书字体，后背不再是单一的光滑无物，而是多了一些字迹和铸造局的名称。其实清朝初期对钱币使用的书法艺术没有太多讲究，但是到了嘉庆时期有了统一，都是楷书，字迹工整又清秀，给人耳目一新的感觉，，有极高的收藏价值。
