唐继尧铜币是辛亥革命后军阀割据时期发行的产物。1917年8月，云南造币厂为纪念共和历史，开铸了唐继尧侧面像纪念铜币，后因“模型未臻完美，不便赓续多铸”之故，致使该币停铸并流传甚少。1918年10月1日，云南造币厂在前铸模型的基础上加以改良后开铸新模，即唐继尧正面像三钱六分纪念银币和铜币。唐侧与正像的区别是，唐继尧头像较大，头像外无圆圈，下方无嘉禾图案。

唐继尧是云南会泽人，光绪九年（公元1883年）出生于一个书香家庭，父亲是一名举人，他本人也中过秀才，旧学很有基础，为人器宇恢宏，倜傥有大志。光绪廿八年（1902年）东渡日本，入士官学校第六期，和赵恒惕、阎锡山等同期。1908年毕业于日本陆军士官学校，1905年秋加入同盟会，1909年毕业归国回滇历任清陆军督练公所参谋处提调、陆军讲武堂教官、监督、新军管长。

His old school was very basic, and he was a magnificent man with great ambitions. Guangxu 28 years (1902) to Japan, entered the sixth phase of sergeant school, and Zhao Hengdian, Yan Xishan and other periods. He graduated from the Japanese Army Sergeant School in 1908, joined the League in the autumn of 1905, and returned to Yunnan in 1909 to serve as the Chief of Staff of the Qing Army Governor's Office, instructor, supervisor and new army administrator.

1912年率军北伐，任贵州都督，次年调任云南都督。唐继尧是反对袁世凯复辟，拥护共和的杰出代表人物。“护国讨袁南天一柱，治滇兴教东陆独尊”，是人们对唐继尧一生的高度概括。19015年与蔡锷等通电全国反对袁世凯称帝，任护国都督兼第三军总司令。1916年5月，独立的各省在广东肇庆成立护国军军务院，唐继尧任军务院抚军长，继续讨袁战争。1917年，护法运动又将唐继尧推向靖国联军总司令和元帅的高位。他致力共和、反对独裁、顺应历史潮流，值得后人颂扬和纪念。1927年2月，部将胡若愚、龙云、张汝骥、李选廷等发动兵变，威逼唐继尧去职。同年5月23日，享年44岁的唐继尧含恨病逝，葬于昆明园通山。

Tang Jiyao was appointed as the head of the State Council and continued to discuss the Yuan War. In 1917, the law-protecting movement pushed Tang Jiyao to the position of commander-in-chief and marshal of the Yasukuni coalition army. He devoted himself to republicanism, opposed dictatorship and conformed to the trend of history, which is worthy of praise and remembrance by future generations. In February 1927, General Hu Ruoyu, Longyun, Zhang Ruji and Li Xuanting launched a mutiny and forced Tang Jiyao to resign. On May 23 of the same year, Tang Jiyao, aged 44, died of illness and was buried in Tongshan, Kunming Garden.
