光绪元宝，是清朝光绪年间流通的货币之一。由两广总督张之洞率先引进英国铸币机器铸造银元和铜元，之后各省纷纷仿效。共有十九个省局铸造，除中央户部，地方省所铸铜元，皆在其正面上缘镌写省名，背文为满文记局名。

先后铸行过“光绪元宝”和“元绪重宝”，“光绪通宝”，通宝制钱铸于公元1875-1908年之间，钱重从开始的一钱逐步减至八分，最后减至六分，该钱书法为楷书，此外宝福局也铸过篆文钱，光绪通宝钱背文为满文记局名，也有星月纹，字有宝河、宝真、宝津、宝云、宝黔等，还有铭“千字文”者（即背穿上各见“千字文”中一字，为宇、宙、日、月、往来等字）。另外在戊子年（公元1888年）出过一种背穿左为“戊子”右为“河”字的戊子钱。光绪十五年，湖广总督张之洞在广东从英国购买的机器制造我国历史上第一批机制币，不再为方孔圆钱形状了，此后相继在各省推广实行，遂步取代了“方孔圆钱币，是铸币、贝币、布币、圆钱等总称，从中华文明开始伴随着贸易发展产生的流通货币，流传至今，中华5000年文明以及古人的智慧也尽皆浓缩在这一枚小小的钱币上面。
