后来甲午中日战争中国战败，清政府于1895年4月（光绪二十一年三月）与日本签订《马关条约》，台湾被迫割让给日本，因此台湾省造银圆也随之被迫停产了。据资料记载，日本占据台湾后，台湾银行于1900年12月到1901月6月间，在台南地区调查通货种类，其《视察复命书》称台湾所铸银圆稀少罕见。能留存至今者更是少之更少。
