福建官局造光绪元宝每枚当钱十文；福建是继广东省局之后，较早开始铸造铜元的省份之一，不仅采用了和广东一样先进的设备、技术和币模，同时还更具特色。钱币正面珠圈内镌汉文和满文“光绪元宝”字样，珠圈外上端铸“福建官局造”五字，下镌“每枚当钱十文”六字，两旁镌闽关二字，钱币背面蟠龙居中，龙纹极其精美，龙鳞细腻优美，线条棱角分明，纹理清晰流畅，图案层次感强。铜质精良，形制规整；币面包浆自然细腻；保存完好；字体清晰清秀，难得一见的收藏佳品。

光绪年间福建省所需机制钱币均由广东省供应，因路途遥远，往返费时，运汇费用多，劳民伤财。福建都督准商人孙利用集股购机，就在福建当地试铸。后来户部令，不准商人附搭股本或自行铸造。后拟委派福建籍浙江候补知县孙葆办理，由善后局、盐道筹款续铸。后因局库支绌，无款拨给而作罢。于光绪二十六年（1900年），委藩司张曾督办局务，办理机器厂房、物料等事宜。其鼓铸费用均由该司、道设法筹款。铸成后发行流通。福建省官方自接办后改为“福建银元局”。往后所铸机制币，其币上端均书“福建官局造”，与他省截然不同。
