说到五铢钱，就不得不提一个人，那就是汉武帝。在汉朝初年，还是用着秦始皇命人铸造的“半两钱”。汉高祖刘邦大封诸侯王，有些诸侯王甚至拥有了自行铸币的权力。而且此后很多得宠的大臣和王公贵族也私自铸造钱币。这种滥发无序，缺斤短两的“半两钱”不仅扰乱了市场秩序，还严重威胁到了汉朝中央的统治基础。
