　　辛亥革命以后，袁世凯就任“临时大总统”之职，后又成为正式大总统。当时，为了巩国内政局稳定，发展民族经济，也为“制宪”和“称帝”作准备，于是毅然决定在全国“统一币制”。是年(民国3年，即1914年)，制定了“中华民国国币条例”，于是大量收购旧币，在天津造币总厂和武昌、广州、南京等分厂按规格、重量等铸造袁世凯头像银币，全国通用，逐渐取代了“大清银币”等银币。

　　袁大头银币在货币收藏界被称为银元之宝，它是中国近千种近代银币中流传最广、影响最大的银元品种。是民国时期主要流通货币之一，大多在解放时期被收回，重新融化，存世量极为稀少。此件拍品包浆自然浑厚，使用痕迹明显，保存的较为完好，品相优美，有着不可估量的收藏价值!
