中华民国所铸袁世凯像背嘉禾壹圆银币，俗称“袁大头”，在正式开铸银币前，同样有用铜冲压试机这一过程，其试机结果称为试机样币，试铸币就是没有进入市场使用的。其实民国试铸币就是当时从国外买过来的机器，因为第一次铸造，用银改为铜，用铜水冷却后机器铸压，试铸币是当时的完成品样品。是后续铸银币的对照品，整个国家这种版别才几百枚左右。
鉴于此枚袁大头为试铸币，一直没有流通，就被回炉，流落在民间的非常少，所以旷世罕见。就该币本身而言，其艺术价值远超其文物价值，收藏价值极大。
