　　A comparatively small but ornately cast squarish wine vessel (Fangyi) with 8 sets of taotie mask motifs. The preservation of this vessel is of a quality that is seldom seen.

　　This squarish wine vessel (Fangyi) is reputed to have been modeled along the shape of a house with all the respective surfaces equally divided by raised flanges. It has a center knob on the cover lid which usually is formed by 4 flat sloping surfaces but this present vessel is cast with taotie mask motifs with bulging eyes. There is a horizontal band of 4 pairs of confronting phoenixes at the top part of the vessel’s body while the raised foot ring is decorated with 4 pairs of confronting kui dragons. 4 typical inverted U slots are left on the foot ring that are suspected to be spaces where fingers may be inserted during the lifting of the vessel.

This vessel has a unique feature in that, besides the bulging eyes, the ground and all the motifs in relief are meticulously incised with neat leiwen.

　　方彝是中国古代盛酒的器皿，在我国商代晚期到西周中期尤为的兴盛，造型上主要的特征呈现为长方形的器身，带盖且呈现为直口状，圈足是其普遍的特征。其方彝在其器盖上小底大，做成斜坡式的屋顶形状，圈足上往往其上部会有一个缺口，但是也有少数的方彝下腹向外鼓起呈现为曲腹的状态。

　　而方彝的盖与其器身往往呈现为四条或八条凸起的棱线，全器布满了云雷纹的样式且上部凸起雕出兽面、动物等纹饰，从其外观上看有着浓重的庄重华丽之感，收藏价值以及上升的空间较大。

商周时期的晚期方彝一般呈现为直壁的形状，上面的口部大于其底部的状态，而在其器身的横长两倍于纵长，存在着斜肩的状态，由于两个方彝之间的组合，是商代时期典型的特征。西周时期早期方彝四壁多作为弧线的状态，大部分的方彝呈现为器物腹部向外鼓起，圈足上的缺口出现的较少，虽然存在着直角方型的，但是其器物的与底部呈现为一样的大小，但是流传至今的方彝瓷器却较少。

　　西周时期进行青铜上纹饰的修饰主要是以云雷纹为地，器身上为长方形，腹部两侧置有象鼻上卷状耳，圈足较高，器盖是以四阿式的屋顶状为主，中部的脊、四坡角均放置在扉棱，中脊正中有一四阿式短柱钮，造型极具特色，且在工艺的结合和纹饰上的修饰赋予了它浓厚的庄重感和庄严之感，将皇家的地位以及气势发挥的可谓是淋漓尽致。

　　从其器盖上圆形旋涡纹上方装饰为窃曲纹饰，两侧为夔纹，工艺较为的复杂，且层层的纹饰相互交错、相互衬托，使其艺术感更为的浓郁。颈部使用了窃曲纹进行装饰，在其下方为两凹形槽，形式较为的特殊，两种纹饰进行的结合给工匠师带来了较大的难度，由于当时工艺水平有限，且制作尊耗时

　　时间较长、制成率较低，但是一旦制作成功其收藏价值是不可估量的，存世量也较少。
