开元通宝是唐代第一种货币，沿用时间最长的货币。由于其质量合理，通货控制得当，钱币做工比较精美，故深受百姓喜爱。开元通宝已经成为大五帝钱的一部分，具有辟邪，旺财的功效。Kaiyuan tongbao was the first kind of currency in the tang dynasty and the currency in use for the longest time. Because its quality is reasonable, currency control is proper, money work is more exquisite, so be loved by common people. Kaiyuan tongbao has become a part of the five emperors' money, which has the effect of warding off evil spirits and flourishing wealth.

开元通宝，在我国钱币史上具有划时代的地位。唐代以前的钱币，多以形制或重量为名称，如刀币、五铢钱等，而自开元钱后，改称“宝”、“通宝”、“元宝”等。开元通宝是唐朝统治290年中的主要流通货币，而且影响了中国1000多年钱币的形制、钱文模式和十进位衡法。另外，日本、越南、朝鲜钱制也受到开元通宝的影响。Kaiyuan tongbao has an epoch-making status in the history of Chinese COINS.
