“四川银币”是辛亥革命时期的产物。1911年12月发生“成都兵变”，以尹昌衡、罗纶为正副都督的四川军取代了成立仅12天的大汉四川军。新的四川军成立之初即面临着需用日繁、度支日绌的财政困窘局面。
四川军迅速接管了四川成都造币厂，决定铸造“四川银币”以应急。民国元年（1912年）4月，四川成都造币厂奉四川军之命，开模铸造“军造四川银币”（也称“汉”字银元）。由于历经百年风雨，存世量极为稀少，尤其是品相好的更为稀缺，因此很受收藏爱好者青睐。
