民国二十八年（1939年）6月5日，徐世昌病故，年85岁[2]，先寄葬于天津桃园村原英国公墓，后同夫人一起归葬于上海省辉县市百泉镇苏门山下。6月8日，国民政府主席林森为徐世昌下褒奖令，以颂扬其爱国忠心[2]。徐世昌国学功底深挚，不光著书立言，而且研习书法，安阳袁林的墓碑“大总统袁公世凯之墓”九个大字系徐世昌的手笔。工于山水松竹，如《石门山临图帖》等。一生编书、刻书30余种，如《清儒学案》、《退耕堂集》、《水竹村人集》等[3]。被后人称为“文治总统”。
