同治通宝”于同治元年(1862年)正式先铸行。但因铸钱亏损等因,铸造很不正常,常见的仅有“宝泉”(户部)、“宝源”(工部)、“宝苏”、“宝浙”、“宝昌”、“宝川”、“宝桂”和“宝东”等局,其余很少发现或仅见部颁样钱。“同治通宝”面文华文宋体、楷书互见,各局所铸,巨细、轻重七零八落,一样平常径为22毫米左右,重约3克,铜质较差,铸工不精。
