光绪末年，云南省获准在昆明宝云局旧址设厂，招用四川技工并以德国进口机器按当时天津户部祖模造币。1907年建成云南银元局后又改名云南造币厂，生产“光绪元宝”新旧两类版别的银币。老版成色最佳，故信用良好，新版成色差，需折中使用。

此枚光绪元宝云南省造库平三钱六分，藏品正面铸有铭文，顶部铸楷体“云南省造”四字，底部铸货币价值“库平三钱六分”，中心直读“光绪元宝”四字，币中心为满文“光绪元宝”，外圈两侧各有一朵六角花纹装饰;背面正中为蟠龙图，上下边缘环绕英文，左右各一花星。神龙眼神灵异炯炯有神，龙鳞雕刻细密有致，腾云驾雾，身姿遒劲有力、龙爪张扬，尽展皇家威严大气，具有极高的观赏价值。
