乹元重宝是中国唐朝由官方铸造发行的铜质铸币。有“乹元重宝”和“重轮乹元重宝”两种。因官价规定，面值大于开元通宝，并且有很高的兑换率，又因乾元年间发行，所以称为“乹元重宝”，民间俗称“乹元大钱”。

乹元元年七月，诏曰：“钱货之兴，其来久矣，代有沿革，时为重轻。周兴九府，实启流泉之利；汉造五铢，亦弘改铸之法。必令小大兼适，母子相权。事有益于公私，理宜循于通变。但以干戈未息，帑藏犹虚，卜式献助军之诚，弘羊兴富国之算，静言立法，谅在便人。乹元重宝文字仿唐初开元通宝，初期铸币亦与开元通宝同样规整细腻。其通常“元”字首笔平直、二笔左挑，而乹元重宝中的“元”字上两横起笔无挑，收笔无翘，平头如斩的钱却更是稀见。
