为了日臻完善自己的艺术语言，在上个世纪七、八十年代，周智慧两入中央美院深造，油画、国画兼修，除此之外，周智慧还不断地从古今中外的传统艺术里汲取营养，认真研读了从顾恺之到近现代山水大家的笔墨气韵，造型风格，也认真地研究了西方画家透纳、约翰罗宾逊、埃瓦佐夫斯基大师的作品。大海给予的力量，自身潜在的艺术品质，笔耕不辍的治学态度，中外大师的精华融合，思大于行的睿智感觉，最终开启了周智慧独立画坛，“无法乃至大法”的大海风格。
