中华民国十八年(1929年)，此年号孙中山像钱币是民国二十三年上海中央造币厂所铸，在币面的设计方面，双帆币是凝聚着千百名工艺技师的智慧源泉和美学独特视角，品相极好，整体造型和谐，图案设计精美，因此引得万千藏家竞相收藏。此款钱币因铸有孙中山肖像，且铸造成的银元比袁大头略小，因而被称为“孙小头”。中华民国二十三年孙小头壹圆为官政府制作，由于民国时期战争连绵不断，中华民国二十三年孙小头壹圆损失较为惨重，历经百年历史，其存世量珍罕，弥足珍贵。国民政府拟定设计新的孙中山像国币以取代流通已久的袁世凯像银币和孙中山像中华民国开国纪念币。天津造币厂于当年设计并铸造了三种正面镌有孙中山着西服肖像的壹圆型银币，中华民国十八年孙中山西服像地球双旗壹圆银币系天津造币厂设计并正式铸行的银币之一。有密内齿版和疏内齿版两个版别。本品为疏内齿版，其银币正背两面环币边缘内侧镌垂直于币缘弧面的短直扣边装饰纹粗细相间。银币正面中央镌孙中山着西服九分脸肖像，肖像上环镌银币的铸造年份“中华民国十八年”七个字。银币的背面采用流通已久的袁世凯像壹圆银币背面的三帆壹圆，贰元，伍元图案文字，中央镌币值，托以嘉禾二束，左右交互，下系结带。该币在旧中国民国时期的全国各地均有少量流通，说明该银币系当时的中华民国国民政府正式铸行的银币，只是铸额较小，但绝非是民间江湖钱谱所称的试铸银币。
