  陨石也称“陨星”,是地球以外脱离原有运行轨道的宇宙流星或尘碎块飞快散落到地球或其它行星表面的未燃尽的石质、铁质或是石铁混合的物质。2019年10月11日凌晨约0时16分前后,一颗陨石可能坠落在东北吉林省松原市附近,辽宁沈阳、吉林长春、吉林松原、黑龙江哈尔滨等黑龙江和吉林多地网友均目击到这颗陨石坠落时产生的火光。因为陨石是外太空的来物,陨石确定真假是需要仪器鉴定的,肉眼只有辅助的作用。大多数陨石来自于火星和木星间的小行星带,小部分来自月球和火星。陨石大体可分为石质陨石、铁质陨石,石铁混合陨石。陨石的平均密度在3~3.5之间,主要成分是硅酸盐。陨铁密度为7.5~8.0,主要由铁、镍组成。陨铁石成分介于两者之间,密度在5.5~6.0间。陨星的形状各异,最大的陨石是重1770千克的吉林1号陨石,最大的陨铁是纳米比亚的戈巴陨铁,重约60吨。中国陨铁石之冠是新疆青河县发现的“银骆驼”,约重28吨。
