　“玉堂清玩”相传为明相严嵩之子严东楼的字号，严东楼自己不铸炉，却爱收集上好铜炉，并将“玉堂清玩”堂款制于其上。

“玉堂清玩”款炉传为严氏铜器。赵汝珍《古玩指南》中记，“严氏之炉皆系劫取宣炉之无款者，充为已有，非其所制”。赵汝珍所写的《古玩指南》，被奉为民国古董文化经典，“玉堂清玩”也因此被认为是“宣德炉”的知名款识。
