祭红是景德镇的陶工在明宣德时期创烧的著名红釉品种，它是以铜为着色剂，生坯上釉，置于还原焰气氛中，在1250℃-1280℃温度下一次烧成。祭红色泽深沉稳定，不流釉不脱口，釉面也罕有龟裂纹理，釉色似初凝的鸡血，深沉安定，莹润均匀，釉中无龟裂纹理，因祭红器作祭祀郊坛之用，故名。
