光绪，清朝第十一位皇帝，也是清军入关以来第九位皇帝，年号光绪(公万1875-1908年)。光绪皇帝即位后，先后铸行过“光绪通宝”、“光绪重宝”、“光绪元宝”。而光绪元宝，是光绪年间流通最广的大面值货币，同时也是我国首批引进海外技术的印发流通货币。

During the Guangxu period, the coinage industry was influenced by the advanced thoughts. In the thirteenth year of Guangxu, Governor Zhang Zhidong of Guangzhou and Guangzhou commissioned the British Minister to order a complete set of coinage machines in the UK, and first minted silver and copper yuan in the Guangdong Money Bureau. Thereafter, there were foundries in four branches: Beiyang, Nanyang (Jiangnan), Hubei and Guangdong. However, the circulation is not large, among which the treasures of Zhengguang Xuyuan Treasury in Hubei Province are less common.

此藏品为湖北省造光绪元宝库平一钱四分，有着成色足，形制规整，质地精良的特点。钱币正面珠圈内镌满汉文“光绪元宝”四字，圈外上环“湖北省造”，下环“库平一钱四分”；背面内圈铸有蟠龙图，上下环英文：HU-PEHPROVINCE（湖北省造），1 MACE AND 4.4 CANDAREENS（一钱四分），左右各一个十字星。藏品上的蟠龙图象征和标志着大清王朝至高无上的权威与尊严，英文字样则体现出在清朝年间，我国语言就与国际语言和文化方面有所接轨。该钱币设计画面优雅，雕刻精细，现存储量已非常稀少，是难得一见的珍品。

This collection is made in Guangxu Yuan Treasury of Hubei Province. It is four cents a dollar. It has the characteristics of perfect color, regular shape and fine texture. The front of the coin is inscribed with the four characters of "Guangxu Yuanbao" in Chinese, the outer ring is "made in Hubei Province" and the lower ring is "made in Kuping with four quarters of a dollar"; the inner ring on the back is inscribed with a dragon picture, and the upper and lower rings are in English: HU-PEHPROVINCE (made in Hubei Province), 1 MACE AND 4.4 CANDAREENS (made in Hubei Province), each of which has a cross star. The image of Panlong in the collection symbolizes the supreme authority and dignity of the Qing Dynasty. The English characters are reflected in the Qing Dynasty, and Chinese language is in line with international language and culture. The coin has elegant design and fine sculpture, and its storage is very scarce. It is a rare treasure.
