湖北省造光绪元宝库平一钱四分四厘，钱币正面珠圈内钤有光绪元宝，珠圈上钤有湖北省造，下钤有币值库平一钱四分四厘，左右两边钤有梅花印，背面珠圈内钤有蟠龙图，上下钤有英文。此枚银币经过时间的洗练，品相完好，实属不易。光绪十五年(1889),张之洞奉命调往湖北,任湖广总督,此后不久,便将广东的经验运用于湖北,并在湖北武昌筹建了国内第二家采用机器制造银元的官方铸钱机构——湖北银元局,该局也是张之洞来到湖北后建造的第一家铸钱机构。湖北银元局所造银元,因含银量高,制作精良,广受欢迎而行销全国。湖北银元局不仅广铸银元,而且也曾发行纸币。但因该局纸币存世稀少,极难寻觅而很少为人们所熟悉。
