1904年光绪三十年湖北银圆局正式改名银币局，开铸新银元。湖北省壹两正面中央铭文“大清银币”，是中国最早有“大清银币”字样的银币。上缘“光绪三十年湖北省造”，下方刻“库平一两”。背面为双龙戏珠，中央面值“壹两”，外缘上下为英文。依大清银币四字之大小，分为大小字两版。模具由日本大阪造币厂制作。

In 1904, Hubei silver yuan Bureau was officially renamed silver coin Bureau in the thirties of Guangxu. One or two obverse central inscriptions in Hubei Province are the earliest silver coins in China with the inscription "Qing silver coins". The upper margin is "made in Hubei Province in 30 years of Guangxu", and the lower margin is engraved with "Kuping one or two". 俗称“湖北壹两”是流通银币中，除吉林厂平壹两外唯一的“两”制银币，巧合的是两者背部皆为双龙图案。湖北壹两推行并不成功，失败原因主要是制钱与铜元间的兑换基本上是以七钱二分银元为主，虽然比价每日有所变化，但两制币推出并没有使用上的方便，反而增加困扰。所以现在留存极其少，相当珍罕。

This silver coin was made in Hubei Province in the past 30 years. On the front side of the silver coin, the central pearl circle is engraved with the four characters of "Qing Dynasty silver coin" in Chinese. On the outside of the Pearl circle, the upper ring is engraved with the Chinese character "made in Hubei Province in 30 years of Guangxu", and the lower ring is engraved with the Chinese character "Kuping one or two".

银币背面中央镌汉字“壹两”，左右环镌『双龙戏珠图案』，龙图外上环镌英文省名HU-PEH PROVINCE(湖北省)，下环镌英文币值ONE TAEL(一两)，左右两端镌满文“一两”。银币文字俊秀，龙图生动传神，堪称清代龙洋中的典范。
