早期铜钱正面铸“天国”、背面铸“圣宝”字样，有小平钱、当十两种。还铸过背为“通宝”的当十钱。后来铸造正面为“太平天国”、背面为“圣宝”的大小四等钱，以小平钱居多。晚期在浙江地区还铸过正面为“天国太平”、背面为“圣宝”，正面为“天国圣宝”、背面为“太平”，正面为“太平圣宝”、背面为“天国”等多种小平和当五钱币。非流通的钱有镇库钱、大花钱等。钱上也铸有“太平天国”、“圣宝”字样，作为镇库和赏赐之用。另有金钱和银钱，均属民间殉葬之冥钱。天京(南京)是太平天国铸钱的主要基地，苏州、杭州、绍兴、嘉兴等地亦有铸造。

展目本品，其面文“太平天国”四字、背文“圣宝”二字，宋体字书体，直读。可见其书写标准规范，字形端正，笔划横直竖立，文字布局协调。其中，“国”字无点。故而从文字书相来看，本品书相自然而端庄，无异无邪，正是那太花之典型书相。

It can be seen that the writing standard is standardized, the font is straight, the strokes are horizontal and vertical, and the text layout is coordinated. 复观其纹饰之相，面左右外圈双龙戏珠纹，背外圈双龙纹，与面纹构图有别；内圈则为双凤纹。这些纹饰，构图自然，线条流畅，风格特征凸显正点。其中值得指出的是，谱载有类似大小的大花钱一品，面纹饰与本品一致，而背内圈凤纹无二般，所不同的是外圈纹谱载品为八宝纹，而本品则是龙纹。关于这一点，则不能以谱载为标准或者唯一，而言其它纹非正。其原因很清楚，太平天国圣宝花钱大小有别，种类数种，其间既有同纹者，亦有纹饰有别者。因此，本品背外圈纹饰，因是龙纹而非八宝纹，在亦今的发现中更为罕见。当然，若以本品为仿品对待的话，那仿者何

以谱载纹饰为准来得简单划算？故，无需细表，本品之书相，可谓开门不疑矣。
