颐和园，中国清朝时期皇家园林，前身为清漪园，坐落在北京西郊，距城区十五公里，占地约二百九十公顷，与圆明园毗邻。它是以昆明湖、万寿山为基址，以杭州西湖为蓝本，汲取江南园林的设计手法而建成的一座大型山水园林，也是保存最完整的一座皇家行宫御苑，被誉为“皇家园林博物馆”，也是国家重点旅游景点。

这枚钱币是为了纪念1888年光绪皇帝重建颐和园所发行的花钱，颐和园在咸丰十年（1860年），被英法联军焚毁。也是希望此园重建后能顺顺利利，平平安安的传承下去，只可惜后来八国联军又将它毁为一旦，着实令人感到惋惜。钱币通体采用金属铝铸造的花钱，在当时还是第一次用金属铝铸造钱币。在当时清朝末期，电解铝的技术还未发明，所以铝的材料比黄金还要贵重。当年拿破仑发行的勋章也铝制的，比黄金还要贵重很多。这枚钱币采用传统外圆内方钱币制式，廓款币厚，整体制式极为规整，钱币地章平坦，穿口修整规范。钱文深峻挺拔，字口俊秀灵动，图案清晰可辨。包浆醇厚润泽，皮壳厚实自然。同时也体现满清皇权制度在铸币领域的权威，其设计制造者不计成本地进行了精美绝伦的设计。其艺术水准、防伪能力迄今没有被超越。

At the same time, it also reflects the authority of the imperial power system in the field of coinage in the Qing Dynasty, and its designers and manufacturers have carried out excellent designs regardless of local conditions. Its artistic level and anti-counterfeiting ability have not been surpassed so far.
