自古以来，紫砂壶与奇石、兰花被誉为文人三雅。紫砂壶因不夺茶香又无熟汤之气，加之壶壁吸附茶气，且日久使用空壶里注入沸水也有茶香，所以长期以来，紫砂壶被人们推崇为理想的注茶器。紫砂壶是中国特有的手工制造陶土工艺品，制作原料为紫砂泥，其风格高雅脱俗，能较长时间保持茶叶的色、香、味，且因经茶水泡、手摩挲，会变为古玉色而倍受人们青睐。是具有收藏价值的“古董”，名家大师的作品往往一壶难求。

早在明代就有“名手所作一壶重不数两，价重每一二十金，能使土与黄金争价”，清代亦有“宫中艳说大彬壶，海外竞求鸣远碟”之说，紫砂壶价格贵的不是原料，也不仅是稀缺，而是其文化底蕴，那些有文物价值和历史档案性质的紫砂名壶第一批冲到了天价。说到这就不得不提制作紫砂壶的大师—顾景舟（1915-1996），原名景洲。别称：曼希、瘦萍、武陵逸人、荆南山樵。自号壶叟、老萍。宜兴紫砂名艺人，中国美术家协会会员，中国工艺美术大师，顾景舟也是现代陶艺家中最有成就与威望的一位，他的作品以紫砂壶为主，一生所创作的壶型达数十种之多，而且件件都是精品之作。其高超的壶艺境界与他有着深厚的文化修养密不可分。他非常重视“有没有文化积累，是民间艺人从艺历程中最重要的门槛，也是大家与一般匠人的重要区别”这一道理，生前致力于创建紫砂工艺厂，其作品不但深具东方特有艺术特色，更赋予时代气息，堪称为紫砂壶之一代宗师！

周桂珍，宜兴紫砂陶制作技艺非遗传承人，1958年进入紫砂工艺厂。早期拜师王寅春和顾景舟先生，退休后定居北京。40余年的创造生涯，使她在紫砂艺术上取得了显著的成绩。先后获得高级工艺美术师、江苏省工艺美术大师、中国陶瓷艺术大师、中国工艺美术大师等称号，是三位女大师之一，其作品在海内外都享有很高的声誉。她的紫砂作品大气、豁达、洒脱中也蕴含着女性的秀丽与和美。周桂珍的艺术，具有最明显的两个特色，一个是扎实的功力、严谨的制作，她可以细到毫巅，严到极处，在紫砂艺术上取得了显著的成绩，其作品在海内外都享有很高的声誉，值得一藏。
