“大晟钟”为椭圆形筒式乐钟,双龙钮,身饰蟠虺纹,正面有“大晟”款,背面铸有律名。其制作十分精致,是一般仿造铜器所不能及的,这除了官仿器制作不计成本外,也同当时研究乐律和铸造乐钟均用出土的古钟作标本有关。“大晟钟”就是仿照当时新出土的春秋钟制作的。
